“Iron” Weekend in Kazan Is Over
This day, about 150 professional sportsmen competed for the right to become the first in the discipline. The main specific of this competition day was the speed of covering the distance, the mass start in swimming and the permitted drafting at the cycling stage.
The start was given from the Kremlin embankment, the swimming stage was held in the water area of the Kazanka river, the cycling track ran through the central historical part of the city, and the running went by the Promenade.
The paratriathletes were the first to conquer the Kazan start .Despite everything, all the athletes did not simply cross the finish line, but showed amazing results.The winner was Alexander Konyshev, followed by silver medalist Andrei Tolstikov , and the last of top three was Denis Kungurtsev.
Then came the turn of juniors who competed within the framework of Russia’schampionship. They had a very difficult track to cover, with two sharp turns and climbs during the cycling stage. The hot midday sun presented an additional challenge for the athletes. The top scores were as follows:
Boys:
I place-Grigory Antipov (Rybinsk);
II place — Mikhail Antipov (Rybinsk);
III place — Mark Vysotsky (Moscow).
Girls:
I place-Victoria Akhmetshina (Krasnodar);
II place — Irina Zhuldybina (Moscow);
III place — Anna Goreva (Moscow).
The results showed by four of the best boys and three girls during the competition allowed them to reach the Russian Master of Sports qualifying standard.
The list of athletes who will represent Russia on the international arena at the competition in Australia will soon be determined.
